Managing life’s challenges can be overwhelming, confusing and lonely, leaving you feeling out of control and unable to recognize yourself

The goal of psychotherapy is to help clients acknowledge personal strengths and abilities in resilience, tenacity, and expertise on one’s own life story. This helps cultivate faith in those strengths and abilities as they flow through an intentional, curious, and vulnerable process to explore unique truths and realities in a supported and safe environment. Along this supported therapeutic journey, it is possible to reach your therapeutic goals, achieve a stronger sense of knowing yourself and the truths you want to live in, and how to manage leading a healthier and happier life.

By working with Alivera, you will be guided through the therapy process of self-exploration to address the issues that have led to your struggles. You will learn to develop faith in your own abilities to overcome whatever is holding you back from your true, authentic self.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve already accomplished the first step of acknowledging that you need help! You no longer have to take this journey alone – we would be honoured to be your guide.

You just want to feel good. And we can help!

What’s in a name?

What exactly does Alivera mean, you might ask?  Here’s Denise’s response:

The name Alivera is a combination of the names of two strong women I love and cherish – Ali (short for Alison) and Vera. Alison comes from the Greek word ‘aletheia,’ which means truth. In Latin, Vera means truth, and in Greek means faith.

The pronunciation of the two names together resembles the pronunciation of ‘aloe vera’. The green colour of the plant is symbolic of growth and rejuvenation. For centuries, the aloe vera plant has been used in medicinal and healing rituals to heal wounds. As a healing plant, aloe vera has protective properties. Evidence has shown that the aloe vera has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits and can boost our immune systems. As a hearty plant, aloe vera can survive with very little soil and nutrients, hence the Egyptians coined aloe vera the ‘plant of immortality’. As humans, we can also be resilient like the aloe vera as we try to navigate the well-being of our mental, physical, and spiritual selves.

Having faith in our own abilities to reckon with our personal truths is powerful and life-giving; being vulnerable and courageous through learning about ourselves can bring about healing and positive change – this is what inspires my approach to counselling therapy.

Alivera represents:

• Truth (about one’s own authenticity)

• Growth and Rejuvenation

• Faith (in one’s inner strength)

• Hope and Healing
